Week 1: Start of the Semester

Hello everyone! After a long registration process I have finally started the spring semester on January 10. Before the start of the semester, I was only allocated two business modules and one Chinese elective but I needed to acquire one more business module. Since my acceptance into NUS, the school informed me on which modules of the previously chosen I have been given. For incoming exchangers, if you haven't secured the classes you wanted or need, don't worry! you still have a chance to obtain them through the registration process conducted a few days before the start of the semester. Using ModReg, students can select modules, select tutorials/labs or swap tutorials/labs, drop modules, and submit appeals for modules. In my case I needed to submit appeals for the modules that I haven't successfully gotten. This process is conducted in several rounds over different days. For exchange students the round was available between Jan 3 to Jan 4 and results were released on Jan 6. Unfortunately I wasn't able secure any modules from that round so I requested again for whatever modules still had vacancies and I was able to get one more business module by Jan 9. The following week was the round for selecting tutorials for the modules. Not all modules have an option to select a tutorial time but for me I had a three. Within the NusMods website it displays the options for possible tutorial times and I ranked them on my preference. Due to the finalizing of tutorials, I didn't have to attend one until the third week of the semester. The picture below is my final schedule for this spring 2022 semester!

Most of my modules are conducted online but I prefer it because in some modules the professor teaches through pre-recorded videos. So I can watch it on my own time and spend the rest of my time exploring campus and Singapore! Some days I spend alone to run errands and buy necessities for my dorm. On my way back from the nearest shopping center to campus, I stumbled upon a beautiful park called Clementi Woods Park. The next day in the evening I had dinner with a few students from my dorm floor. Alicia and Winnie (second and fourth from the left) are Singaporeans and Bea (third from the right) is also an exchange student, from Spain! I had fun chatting with them and learning more about their cultures while trying some delicious food from the dorm's food court. On a Wednesday afternoon I visited Haw Par Villa with a few new people from a group chat with many other exchange students. The theme park is a visual representation of some of Chinese culture and myths through interesting statue displays.
