The National University of Singapore spring semester has a week of no school (also known as recess week) for students to prepare for midterms! During this time many exchange students took the opportunity to travel to neighboring countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, or Sri Lanka. But, most of my friends and I decided to stay in Singapore and explore more here!
Future World @ Art Science Museum
This exhibit was located in the Art Science Museum right next to the Marina Bay Sands mall. Immediately upon entering, the room we were in was colored with bright visual transitions of a waterfall and flowers. When we got close to the wall and touched it, surprisingly the projected waterfall reacted with our touch and movement so wherever our hand was placed the "water" would go around it! Moving to the next room, it brought us to a massive screen that looked like a aquarium. In it were animations of fishes, turtles, jellyfish, and squids. But, all of them were unique because visitors could scan their own drawings and see it move on the display. This was my favorite activity in the exhibition and I decided to draw squidward using a jellyfish stencil. Another memorable part of the exhibition was the light strings which looked cool and was a nice place to take pictures at.
Universal Studios
The day has finally come that we get to go to Universal Studios!! Located on Sentosa Island, the park is filled with many attractions much similar to the ones in the U.S. just a bit smaller. Although it was a slightly rainy day we still had so much fun. The rides we rode were: Battlestar Galactica Cylon & Human, Revenge of the Mummy, Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure and TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle. The first three rides are rollercoasters and my favorite to experience but, now my throat is sore from screaming so much. Another downside is that they were a long wait especially for the Revenge of the Mummy which was 2 hours but, time goes by when you're in good company! :))
1st Hiking Trail in Singapore!
Just out the HarbourFront MRT is a hiking trail called Mount Faber. Our Singaporean friend took us to a secluded path and led us up to the top. Once there, we saw restaurants, more walking paths, and some tourist attractions like cable cars and bells. We then walked a few meters to Henderson Road and there you can check out the Henderson wave which is a long wooden bridge structured to look like a wave. The views from allover was really nice and it wasn't too hot out so I'd say it was suitable weather for hiking. Overall it took us about an 1 hour 30 min. to go up and look at the different paths then 30 min or less to walk back down.
Food Highlights
Baristart Cafe
This cafe was one of many others that are located in Singapore's Tanjong Pagar district and is also known to have some of Singapore's traditional buildings. This was my first time visiting a cafe here and meeting another student from my university (University of Hawaii at Manoa) that is also studying abroad in Singapore! I ordered a tonkatsu sandwich and it was really enjoyable to chat with her and share our experiences on getting to Singapore and the things we've done so far.
Crazy Burger and Shakes!
This restaurant is called Black Tap, located in the Marina Bay Sands mall. After passing by this place and always seeing the interesting shakes that they made, my friends and I decided that we have to try it. I ordered a Wagyu burger which was very filling and we shared two milkshakes. The one on the left was caramel and the other was chocolate! After this dinner, I was so full and possibly the fullest I've been in my life!
Mexican Food!
This restaurant is called Cha Cha Cha, located in Holland Village and is the oldest Mexican restaurant in Singapore! We all ordered Chimichangas (my favorite type of Mexican food) which are deep fried burritos and the best tasting one I've had so far. Definitely will be coming back here!
